Our Newcastle mechanics remove the intake manifold to access the intake valves and ports where carbon deposits build up over time. All engine parts are inspected during disassembly, and any additional concerns are flagged for your review before we begin the walnut blasting process.

Finely ground walnut shells are directed into each intake port at controlled pressure while the piston is positioned at top dead centre. Walnut shell media breaks down and removes hardened carbon deposits from the intake valves and port walls without damaging the combustion chambers or the engine’s internal components.

Walnut shell media and dislodged carbon are extracted by vacuum throughout the entire blasting process. This protects the critical engine components below the intake valves and ensures no debris enters the combustion chambers during the carbon cleaning.

Each intake port and valve face is visually inspected after removing carbon deposits to confirm that the engine carbon has been fully cleared. Any remaining carbon buildup is vacuumed away before reassembly, ensuring the intake system is clean and airflow is fully restored.

The PCV system is inspected on every walnut blasting job at our Boolaroo workshop. A leaking or degraded PCV valve allows excess oil vapour into the intake system, which is the most common reason carbon deposits re-accumulate quickly after a service. We advise on any faults before proceeding with repairs.
